Mellow range - if chosen
This beautiful melody is, in my opinion, best sung or played in a lower range -- perhaps alto for the ladies -- but it has variance in tones also. It is a favorite sweet melody. It was the background music for PBS 1990 mini-series, "The Civil War" by filmmaker Ken Burns.

Ashokan Farewell
I've loved this tune since I heard it on the Civil War documentary. One of my students was playing an adaptation of this song in a Faber method book, and I HAD to have the original arrangement. I'm working on it, as some of the fingerings are a bit unusual for me, but I really love it.

piano arrangement of Ashokan Farewell
I loved this piece of music, just perfect for me. I am not looking for great challenges in piano playing, just the pure pleasure of playing and sounding reasonably well. The song is haunting and very beautiful.
